Wage garnishment order
A wage garnishment order is the legal document that triggers a seizure of wages by a creditor. Usually served on a place of employment by an officer of the court, such as a sheriff’s deputy, the order legally compels an employer to divert a portion of an employee’s wages to a creditor. In California and a few other jurisdictions, it’s called an earnings withholding order
