Hyatt is one of the world’s largest hotel brands, with locations in more than 70 countries across the globe. With properties ranging from mid-level to luxury, Hyatt has a destination for every kind of traveler. If you are a Hyatt loyalist or just hoping to take advantage of such a wide variety of options, you might consider joining World of Hyatt to start earning rewards points.

What is the World of Hyatt?

World of Hyatt is the loyalty program for all Hyatt brand hotels, including destinations ranging from mid-level hotels to all-inclusive resorts. The Hyatt portfolio includes brands such as Miraval, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place and Andaz — just to name a few.

World of Hyatt loyalty program members can earn points several ways, including stays at any Hyatt brand hotel. Members can then redeem points for free nights at Hyatt hotels, participating SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) and M life Rewards destinations, airline miles and more. Elite members of various tiers can enjoy even more perks, including room upgrades, free breakfast and late checkout.

Best of all, World of Hyatt points are some of the most valuable points of any hotel or airline rewards program. Depending on how you redeem your points, you can stretch them a long way.

Pros and cons of the World of Hyatt

The World of Hyatt program offers tons of value for many travelers but isn’t perfect. It’s not the most flexible hotel rewards program, and it may fall short depending on your needs. Here’s a look at the pros and cons of World of Hyatt:

Pros

  • Standard award nights start at just 5,000 Hyatt points
  • Offers a wide range of brands and accommodation options
  • Relatively easy to keep your points from expiring
  • Offers a strong elite status program
  • Can redeem points for suite upgrades
  • Features a large network of transfer partners

Cons

  • Has a smaller global footprint than other large hotel brands
  • Doesn’t offer a cash back redemption option
  • Can be difficult to find award space at popular destinations, especially during peak times

How to choose a World of Hyatt credit card

Hyatt has just two co-branded credit cards available — the World of Hyatt Credit Card and the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. Both cards offer considerable value especially for individuals who frequently stay at Hyatt properties. The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is geared toward small business owners and entrepreneurs, so it might not be a good fit for everyone. It also features a higher annual fee at $199, compared to the personal card’s $95 annual fee.

The World of Hyatt consumer card also comes with an annual free night bonus at a category one through four hotel, plus an additional free night at a category one through four hotel each year you spend at least $15,000.

It’s hard to go wrong with either World of Hyatt card. Though, if you’re looking for more flexibility from your travel card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card or Chase Sapphire Preferred Card are options to consider. Both offer maximum flexibility, including the option to transfer points to the World of Hyatt program.

Bottom line

World of Hyatt offers tons of value for frequent travelers at moderate to luxury resorts around the world. While it’s not the most flexible program, it’s still a top option — especially for Hyatt loyalists and individuals interested in luxury perks and elite status.
