On July 18, 2019, American Express announced a competitor in the business card space – the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card. The card comes with no annual fee and is boasting a generous rewards rate and top-notch features for small business owners:

2 percent cash back on the first $50,000 in purchases per year

Blue Business Cash cardholders can enjoy a generous 2 percent cash back on the first $50,000 in purchases every year and 1 percent on all purchases thereafter. This is an incredibly high rewards rate for a card with no annual fee.

Spend over your credit limit

A huge perk for business owners, the Blue Business Cash card allows users to spend over their allotted credit line – and still earn rewards on those purchases. You’ll just be required to pay off any excess spending along with your minimum payment at the end of the billing cycle.

Qualify for working capital terms

After six months of card ownership, Blue Business Cash cardholders might be eligible to enroll in American Express Working Capital Terms. This program allows you to request that Amex pay your vendors up front, and you can pay the cost back in 30, 60 or 90 days.

Lengthy intro APR

The Blue Business Cash offers one of the best introductory APRs you can find on a business card – 0 percent on new purchases for the first 12 months (13.24 to 19.24 percent variable APR thereafter). This benefit is particularly valuable for small business owners who need to finance a larger purchase over time without racking up interest.

With unique features designed with small business owners in mind, the Blue Business Cash Card is sure to be a competitive option among no-annual-fee business cards. Cardholders can earn a high rate of cash back without sacrificing business perks.

Not the first Amex card with this rewards structure

With its high rewards rate, the Blue Business Cash Card closely mirrors another American Express offering – the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express. Rather than cash back, the Blue Business Plus Card offers 2 points per dollar on up to $50,000 in purchases per year, then 1 point per dollar.

Since the two cards offer similar rewards rates, small business owners looking for an American Express card will have to carefully decide if points or cash back better suit their spending habits. While frequent travelers might be able to stretch the value of Membership Rewards with the Blue Business Plus, business owners looking for more flexibility can enjoy the same rewards rate on the Blue Business Cash.

Should you apply for the Blue Business Cash Card now?

The Blue Business Cash Card is a great choice for cash back enthusiasts who don’t want to pay an annual fee, as it offers a very generous rewards rate. Plus, a lengthy intro APR, the ability to spend over your credit limit and American Express Working Capital Terms are all perks for small business owners, as they provide you more flexibility when making large business purchases.
