More good news for prospective American Express cardmembers: Shortly after announcing new perks and benefits on The Platinum Card® from American Express, the American Express® Gold Card and the American Express® Green Card*, the issuer has come up with a series of attractive welcome offers for new cardholders across the Gold, Platinum and Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express.

New cardmembers will be able to earn an enhanced bonus, as well as generous rewards at restaurants, supermarkets and gas stations.

On top of that, the latest American Express app update comes with a notable feature: Amex Send & Split with PayPal and Venmo. Send & Split allows eligible consumer cardmembers to send money to any PayPal or Venmo user right in the app and avoid fees.

New welcome offers on Amex cards

American Express has announced three new welcome offers on some of its most popular credit cards.

As of Nov. 10, new American Express Gold cardmembers can sign up directly on Resy.com and receive 60,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $4,000 in the first six months with the card. In addition, they’ll be able to earn 20% back on restaurant purchases, up to $250 (non-Resy restaurants included).

Similarly, new American Express Platinum cardholders can receive 75,000 Membership Rewards points when they sign up at Resy.com after spending $5,000 in the first six months, in addition to 20% back at restaurants, up to $300. Additionally, starting Nov. 12, they’ll also earn 10 points per dollar on up to $15,000 in combined purchases at gas stations and supermarkets during their first six months with the card.

New Blue Cash Everyday cardholders are getting a different kind of offer: They can earn 20% back on Amazon purchases, up to $200, in the first six months of card membership. On top of that, they can get $100 cash back after spending $1,000 in the first six months.

Send & Split and no fees when using Venmo and PayPal

Normally, using a credit card on either Venmo or PayPal triggers a 2.9% fee, which American Express cardmembers will now be able to avoid, thanks to the new feature.

When you enroll in Send & Split, an Amex Send account is set up for you automatically. You can use your Amex card to add money to that account and send it to any other PayPal or Venmo user.

With Amex Split, after you make a purchase on your eligible Amex card, you can split it with other Venmo and PayPal users and get paid back directly to your card as a statement credit. To do that, choose any pending or posted purchase in the Amex app that you’d like to split. The purchase amount can be split evenly, or you can adjust the individual portions.

The best part is, you’ll still earn the rewards for the purchases you split in the same way you earn rewards for other purchases.

Is it a good time to sign up for an Amex?

If you’ve been considering an American Express card, now might be a great time to sign up. With the recently added complimentary Uber Eats Pass memberships on the Amex Green, Platinum and Gold (enrollment required by 12/31/21; Uber Eats Pass will auto-bill 12 months from the initial enrollment), and multiple exciting credits on the Gold card, you’ll be able to get an exceptional value out of your Amex – especially considering all the new limited-time welcome offers the issuer has announced.

Keep in mind that travel is currently limited, and it’s hard to say when it may return. While restaurant, grocery and gas rewards can be lucrative, when it comes to redemption, it’s best to spend your points on travel to maximize their value. Since this might not be possible at the moment, you may want to hold on to the bonuses you’ll have earned.

The Blue Cash Everyday, on the other hand, offers a bonus that you can immediately put to use. The 20% cash back on Amazon purchases is undoubtedly an excellent deal, and the $1,000 spending limit can be easy to reach in six months – especially as holiday shopping ramps up. Add the $100 bonus to that, and you’ll get $300 from a card that doesn’t charge an annual fee in bonuses alone.
