In October 2021, Chase and Hyatt released a new business credit card targeted to frequent Hyatt guests and loyalty account holders. The Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card personal card is one of the best hotel credit cards out there, so it makes sense they would want to expand their relationship.

It’s common for brands to have both a personal card and a business card and, in many cases, the benefits are similar. With the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, while there are some similarities, the earning structure and benefits are quite different from the personal Hyatt card.

The Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card at a glance

The World of Hyatt business credit card is a small business card issued by Chase. Because it’s a business credit card, you will need to provide your business information when applying for the card. Currently, the World of Hyatt business credit card offers an initial welcome bonus of 75,000 World of Hyatt points after spending $7,500 within the first three months of having the card.

As you’ll see, the World of Hyatt business card has a unique earning structure and several benefits that make it an intriguing option, especially for travelers who are aiming for Hyatt elite status.

The card has an annual fee of $199 and a regular APR of 17.49% to 24.49% variable.

Earning and redeeming rewards

Here’s a brief overview of how you can earn and redeem World of Hyatt points with the Hyatt business card:

Earning World of Hyatt points

In addition to the 75,000 points welcome bonus (after spending $7,500 in the first three months of opening your account), you’ll earn points in several areas. First, you’ll earn 9 points total per dollar spent at Hyatt – 4 bonus points per dollar when you use your card at a Hyatt hotel plus 5 base points per dollar from Hyatt as a World of Hyatt member.

Plus, you’ll earn bonus points on everyday purchases with the Chase World of Hyatt Business credit card. Instead of earning points in specific categories, the Chase World of Hyatt business card has a dynamic earning structure. You’ll earn 2 bonus points per dollar spent in the top three of eight spend categories each calendar quarter. The eight categories eligible for this double-point reward are:

  • Dining
  • Airline tickets purchased directly with the airline
  • Car rental agencies
  • Local transit and commuting
  • Gas stations
  • Internet, cable and phone services
  • Social media and search engine advertising
  • Shipping

One important note: You’ll get double points in the top three of these categories only through Dec. 31, 2022. In 2023 and beyond, you’ll get those double points only on your top two of the eight categories. There is no cap on the points you can earn.

You’ll also get:

  • 2 points per dollar spent at fitness clubs and on gym memberships
  • 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases

Redeeming World of Hyatt points

Spending on the World of Hyatt business credit card earns World of Hyatt points, which can be redeemed for stays at Hyatt hotels around the world. In addition to earning World of Hyatt points, there are a couple other benefits with the business card when redeeming points.

In fact, if you spend $50,000 in a calendar year, you’ll get 10% of your redeemed points, up to 200,000 points, back for the rest of the year that you can redeem for free night awards, room upgrades and more. Each anniversary year, you’ll also get up to $100 in Hyatt credits. And when you spend $50 or more at any Hyatt property, you’ll earn up to $50 in statement credits, up to twice each anniversary year. This credit can be used on stays or on other purchases made at a Hyatt property.

Travel and business benefits

Because this is a business credit card, it features benefits that cater to business travelers. First, you’ll be enrolled in the Hyatt Leverage program, which helps businesses manage travel for multiple employees. You can get up to 15% off standard rates at participating hotels worldwide, as well as a platform to help manage travel for multiple people. You’ll also get the ability to grant Hyatt Discoverist elite status to up to five different people. And the card offers a variety of benefits that may be useful for travelers:

Another benefit for cardmembers who apply by December 2022: You’ll earn 2 points per dollar spent on Headspace subscriptions. Headspace is a sleep and meditation app that can be useful to achieve restful sleep while on the go.

World of Hyatt status perks

Just for having the World of Hyatt business credit card, you’ll get Hyatt Discoverist elite status for you and up to five other people. Discoverist elite status gets you 10% bonus points when staying at Hyatt, as well as a late 2 p.m. checkout (where available). And if you’re looking to get even better elite status, the Chase World of Hyatt business credit card has you covered there. You can get five tier-qualifying night credits toward Explorist or Globalist status for every $10,000 you spend in a calendar year.

The personal Hyatt credit card gives you two tier-qualifying night credits for spending $5,000, which means the business card gives you an additional night toward qualifying for elite status for every $10,000 you spend. Based on night credits alone, you need 60 nights for Hyatt Globalist status, so if you applied for the card and spent $120,000 before the end of the year, you could obtain Globalist status through February 2024. Depending on how many elite nights you already have, getting Globalist could require even less spending.

Plus, like we mentioned, if you spend $50,000 on the Chase World of Hyatt business credit card in a calendar year, you get 10% back in Hyatt points redemptions for the remainder of the calendar year. This benefit is good on a maximum of 200,000 World of Hyatt points (so 20,000 points back as a rebate), and it’s only good for the remainder of the year, after you hit $50,000 in spending. Based on points, you could potentially reach Globalist status quicker than through tier-qualifying night credits.

How to maximize your World of Hyatt Business Credit Card benefits

The best way to maximize your World of Hyatt Business Credit Card benefits comes if you’re looking to qualify for elite status and don’t think you’ll make it through actual Hyatt hotel stays. It probably only makes sense to put a lot of spending on your World of Hyatt Business card if you plan to make it all the way to top-tier Hyatt Globalist status. Mid-tier Explorist status offers a few perks, but none that are truly amazing, so hitting Globalist status would make up for the opportunity cost of putting those spending dollars on other credit cards.

Another way to maximize your benefits is to take advantage of the 10% redemption bonus. Because that benefit only activates for the remainder of the calendar year after you have spent a total of $50,000 on the card, the timing of your spending makes a big difference. The ideal way to use this benefit is to focus the majority of your spending on the beginning of the calendar year. Then you can schedule some heavy Hyatt redemptions toward the end of the year to take advantage of the 10% rebate.

One of the easiest benefits to maximize is the $100 in statement credits that comes from staying at a Hyatt hotel. All you’ll need there is at least two stays of $50 or more. This should be a fairly straightforward credit for most Hyatt travelers.

Bottom line

The new Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card offers an intriguing earnings proposition. Instead of offering a set amount of bonus points in specific categories, you instead earn 2 points per dollar spent on the categories where you spend the most. While this can work out great if your spending habits line up perfectly with the possible categories, most people will get more points using other cards.

Where this card can really shine is if you’re a big spender who needs extra elite qualifying nights to hit top-tier Hyatt Globalist status. While the initial welcome bonus of 75,000 World of Hyatt points makes the card certainly worth the $199 annual fee for the first year, you’ll want to evaluate the benefits of the card to see whether it actually holds long-term value for you.
