By booking and paying for your hotel on Hotels.com (using the Hotels.com/venture portal), you’ll earn 10 miles for every dollar you spend.
Frequent travelers looking to boost their Capital One Rewards miles earning have a lot to gain from booking this way. Read on to see just how to take advantage of this great offer.
Booking through Hotels.com/venture: Things to know
Hotels.com is a booking site offering special deals on hundreds of thousands of hotels around the world. At the beginning of 2018, the site entered a partnership with Capital One, allowing Venture and VentureOne cardholders to earn 10 miles per dollar on stays booked and paid for through Hotels.com/venture.
Booking through the Venture portal on Hotels.com works the same way as booking through the regular site and includes the same great listings and promotions.
To book a hotel stay that will earn 10 miles per dollar for Venture and VentureOne cardholders, you’ll just need to follow a few simple rules.
Make sure you are visiting Hotels.com/venture
When searching for available hotels through the Venture portal, you should see the Capital One logo on the top of every page.
If that logo is ever missing, you might have accidentally navigated back to the normal Hotels.com site. Be sure you are using the right pathway to avoid missing out on bonus points.
Search for your preferred hotel as normal
Once you are sure you have gone through Hotels.com/venture, simply input information about your desired city, dates and length of stay to view a list of available properties. When you find an offer that works best for you, hit the “Let’s book” button to enter your information.
If you are given the option to pay online or at the hotel as pictured below, you might have navigated back to the normal Hotels.com site. Hotels.com/venture requires that you pay up front.
If navigated correctly, clicking the “Let’s book” button will bring you directly to this screen, with the Capital One logo still visible.
Pay up front with your Venture or VentureOne card
To be eligible for the 10 bonus miles per dollar, you’ll need to pay for your hotel stay in full up front using your Venture or VentureOne credit card.
All hotels booked and paid for through Hotels.com/venture earn Venture and VentureOne cardholders 10 miles per dollar. That means it is easy to rack up significant rewards value. Take the following two-night stay at the Mr. C Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles for example.
At $349 a night for two nights, this stay will cost you $698. But with the 10 miles on every dollar, you’ll get $69.80 back (6,980 miles). As you can see, booking your hotel stays this way can significantly boost your rewards earning.
While this rewards rate might sound too good to be true, there are a few important restrictions to consider before choosing to book your next trip through the Hotels.com Venture portal.
You must pay for your stay up front and in full
In order to be eligible for the 10 miles per dollar rewards rate, you’ll have to pay in full for the hotel stay when you book it through Hotels.com/venture. You won’t have the option to pay at the hotel. For longer stays at expensive properties, this can be a big drawback.
You can’t stack promotional offers
While Hotels.com generally has great nightly rates, you’ll be limited to promotions available on the site if you want to earn the full rewards rate. Any promo code or Secret Price offered through Hotels.com is fair game, but you can’t apply any other coupons. You also won’t be able to shop through cash back portals like Ebates to stack rewards.
No elite status benefits
The biggest downside to booking your hotel stay through Hotels.com comes from the fact that it is a third party booking site. This means that any elite status benefits you enjoy with your favorite hotel brand – such as free breakfast or late checkout – won’t be available. You also won’t earn any hotel loyalty points, so consider whether the 10 Capital One miles per dollar or whatever hotel points you’d earn are worth more overall.
Hotels.com is part of the Expedia group and therefore offers competitive nightly rates to other budget sites like Travelocity, Expedia and HomeAway. It’s wide portfolio of hotel offerings makes it easy to find a great deal, so it’s a no brainer to earn great rewards.
While other travel booking sites also boast great rewards rate, the 10 miles per dollar bonus is hard to match. Consider, for example, the same two-night stay at the Mr. C Beverly Hills in Los Angeles pictured above, this time booked through Rocketmiles – a booking site that offers airline loyalty program rewards on hotel stays.
By booking through Rocketmiles, you can earn 6,000 United MileagePlus miles on the same stay. But when you break it down, this is a lower overall rewards rate.
Rewards rate on two-night Mr. C Beverly Hills stay
$360/night x 2 nights = $720
6,000 United MileagePlus miles/$720 = 8 miles per dollar rewards rate
Even with a more expensive nightly rate than Hotels.com, Rocketmiles awards less miles for the same stay.
If you are trying to top off a miles balance with a particular hotel or airline rewards program – such as United MileagePlus – Rocketmiles might help you get there. However, Capital One miles are some of the most flexible to redeem, allowing you to book travel on any outside sites for the full mile value.
While booking through Hotels.com/venture is one of the most rewarding ways to book a hotel stay, there is a major drawback. Since Hotels.com is a third party booking site, you won’t enjoy any elite status benefits at your favorite hotel brand. You’ll want to consider the value of the extra rewards you can earn to decide if the sacrifice is worth it.
If you own a Capital One Venture or VentureOne card, booking through Hotels.com/venture offers an extraordinary rewards rate on great nightly prices.
