Target will soon roll out a rewards program to all customers, including discounts, coupons and more.
This is great news for frequent Target shoppers, opening up a new portfolio of competitive discounts and other rewards. Members of Target Circle will earn the following:
- 1 percent back on all Target shopping, to be used as a discount on your next trip
- 5 percent back when you shop with the Target REDCard
- 5 percent back off a shopping trip for your birthday
- Ability to vote for nonprofit organizations for your local Target to support
“We worked directly with guests to develop Target Circle, and the program includes the benefits and perks that they told us were most important to them, from earning on every Target trip to having the opportunity to help Target make a positive impact within their local communities,” said Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief marketing and digital officer of Target in a press release.
At its launch, Target Circle will already offer great benefits for shoppers, and it seems the brand is dedicated to continuing to evolve the program to suit users’ needs.
How Target Circle works
Target Circle membership is completely free and will automatically be extended to all Target shoppers with an online Target account, REDcard or Cartwheel account come Oct. 6, 2019. If you don’t have any of these accounts, you can sign up for a Target account online or in the app at any time.
When you shop at Target, you’ll earn 1 percent back on your purchase, excluding purchases like alcohol, prescriptions and gift cards. Oddly, dairy products are also excluded from earning rewards. Your rewards stockpile in your Target account, and when you’ve earned enough, you can opt to transfer them to your Target wallet to be used as a discount on your next trip.
Unfortunately, Target Circle rewards cannot be redeemed for traditional cash back. Additionally, you must redeem your entire balance at once. That means you should be sure you’ve saved up the discount you want before you transfer. As long as your shop at Target and keep your account active at least once per year, your rewards don’t expire – so you can save up for a larger discount.
Beyond discounts, Target Circle members also earn one Giving Program vote for every Target purchase they make. You can cast your votes online or in the Target app, to help determine which local nonprofit organizations your Target will donate to. This is a unique offering, allowing Target shoppers to take an active role in the store giving back in their local community.
Finally, the much-loved Target Cartwheel program will soon be a part of the bigger Target Circle. Soon to be known as Target Circle offers, Cartwheel deals will be sticking around – allowing savvy shoppers to save on their favorite purchases.
Should you sign up for Target Circle?
Though maybe not the most lucrative rewards program, Target Circle is sure to provide great value for frequent shoppers of the brand. Plus, signing up is free, and it is incredibly easy to earn rewards. Even if you can just knock a few dollars off of your next Target purchase, you’ll soon be able to save money with the loyalty program.
