Exxon gas station credit cards for Connecticut’s state agencies are canceled over tax dispute.
Exxon Mobil has canceled the Connecticut government’s gas credit cards due to a tax dispute with the state, according to a report by the Republican-American of Waterbury on May 5, 2007.On May 4, the Connecticut comptroller’s office informed state agencies not to use state-issued Exxon Mobil cards because retailers will not accept them.
Card use had been suspended indefinitely amid a tax dispute with Exxon Mobil, the notice explained.
While the comptroller’s memo did not outline the nature of the tax dispute or provide any details, it encouraged agencies to find alternative means for buying gas temporarily.
The newspaper reported that the move followed a decision be Department of Revenue Services to garnish the Exxon Mobil’s credit card receipts.
