Citi launches Touch ID Sensor

Citibank customers in Hong Kong can now use their fingerprints to access Citi Mobile App. A new authentication feature, entitled “Touch ID Sensor,” allows a user to access Citi’s full suite of mobile banking services — including banking transactions, investment services and inquiry — with his or her unique fingerprint.

To use Touch ID Sensor, a Citi customer must first activate the feature when logging in to the latest version of the Citi Mobile App on the iOS platform with an iPhone 5s or later model. From that point forward, instead of typing in a password, he or she can use a fingerprint to log in and manage mobile banking accounts and perform banking functions, such as checking account balances, transferring money, paying bills and viewing bank promotions. Additionally, Touch ID Sensor is the first fingerprint authentication service in Hong Kong to enable customers to trade stocks on a mobile platform.

Evolving technology

Touch ID Sensor, which follows the launch of voice biometrics authentication earlier this year, is the latest addition to Citibank’s biometrics authentication offering. Angel Ng, country business manager of Citibank Global Consumer Banking, stated in a press release, “After the successful launch of the city’s first voice biometrics authentication service in June, we are pleased to roll out Touch ID Sensor authentication, thus enabling our mobile banking users to access a full range of services at their fingertips.”

Ng further explained that Citibank is continuously investing in innovation and technology development in an attempt to bring faster and simpler banking solutions to customers to make their lives easier. “We strongly believe in innovation, which is not only about offering cutting edge products or services, but also about identifying revolutionary ways to improve all aspects of client experience we deliver.”
