The impending acquisition of Resy falls in line with American Express’ plans to provide its members with benefits that reach beyond traditional rewards and points.
American Express continues to delve into the dining, travel and lifestyle space with the impending acquisition of the restaurant reservation app, Resy. On Wednesday, American Express announced plans to buy the digital restaurant reservation booking and management platform – with expectations for completion in the summer of 2019.
Senior VP of global loyalty and benefits for American Express, Chris Cracchiolo, stated, “We look forward to working with the Resy team to continue to grow the Resy digital platform, and develop new ways to further connect our card members and restaurant partners through unique access and experiences.”
Launched in 2014, Resy provides a table management, CRM and booking technology platform for restaurants, as well as a reservation app for customers. Currently, the company works with approximately 4,000 restaurants to seat more than 2.6 million diners per week in 154 U.S. cities and 10 countries. According to Ben Leventhal, co-founder and CEO of Resy, the synergy between American Express and Resy will help create “an end-to-end global dining platform that thrills both diners and restaurants alike.”
Beyond traditional credit card rewards
The impending acquisition of Resy falls in line with American Express’ plans to provide its members with benefits that reach beyond traditional rewards and points. Recently, American Express purchased Mezi, a personal travel assistant app; Cake Technologies, a UK dining reservation platform; LoungeBuddy, an airport lounge discover and booking platform; and Pocket Concierge, a Japanese premium restaurant reservation platform. The growing suite intends to offer access and experiences in travel and lodging, airport lounges, exclusive events and dining to American Express members.
