Discover has announced a unique new feature for its cardholders – the ability to quickly access account information via Alexa-enabled devices. Starting Dec. 9, 2019, Discover cardholders can link their accounts to any Alexa device, include the Echo and Echo Dot.

“We are committed to providing our customers with valuable solutions that fit their routines, whether through our mobile app, on the web or with voice,” said Shaida Lynch, vice president of e-business at Discover in a press release. “As more consumers embrace voice-assisted technologies, like Alexa, to help manage various aspects of their lives, we’ll continue to provide solutions that meet our cardmembers’ needs wherever or however they prefer to manage their accounts.”

Cardholders with a qualifying Alexa device can ask it question such as the following, according to the press release:

  • What are my recent transactions?
  • What is my available credit?
  • What is my current balance?
  • What is my rewards category?
  • When is my payment due?

If you are interested in setting up this functionality on your device, open your Alexa app and add Discover to skills. You’ll be prompted to log into your Discover account and create a four-digit code for security.

Then, simply ask Alexa to open Discover, followed by the account information you are looking for.

Increased usability for Discover customers

The new Alexa functionality is a step in the right direction for providing ultimate convenience to Discover cardholders. As mobile apps and chat bots get more user-friendly, it becomes more important for card issuers to offer new and unique ways for cardholders to quickly mange their money.

For those who take advantage of voice-enabled assistant devices like Alexa, checking your credit card balance may seem the natural next step. Now, you can manage even more day-to-day tasks with ease. Plus, the four-digit security code ensures you can keep your information private alongside accessibility.
