Student Credit Cards Interview with KRLD Radio Dallas

By Media Relations Senior Industry Analyst Matt Schulz spoke on Thursday, August 27, 2015 with Chris Sommer of KRLD Radio Dallas about the August 2015 Student Credit Cards survey. The interview and transcript are below.

Chris Sommer: Allowing your college student to get a credit card may not sound like such a good idea, but a new study says parents might want to take a second look. Matt Schulz with says they found the card offers now available to college students have really improved.

Matt Schulz: Because the bank is trying to establish a relationship with that student that would hopefully last for many, many years once they’ve graduated and they have a career and a little more money. And that can be a really fruitful relationship for the bank.

Sommer: Schulz says college aged students can take advantage of decent cash-back programs, zero percent introductory rates, even bonuses for good grades.

Schulz: The Discover It Chrome Card for Students gives you a $20 cash-back bonus every year that you keep your GPA at 3.0 or above. That’s a nice extra perk.

Sommer: Schulz says the most important thing is that parents discuss the situation carefully with their college student before they decide to apply for a credit card.
