The grinding of coffee beans and the tangy aroma of a perfectly poured espresso are hardly the sounds and smells you would expect at your local bank branch.

But Capital One is brewing up a new banking experience for customers, one that includes toasty pastries and hot coffee – or an iced latte if you prefer.

Capital One cafes are popping up in cities across the country. By partnering with Peet’s Coffee, the drinks are top-notch and the facilities are state-of-the-art. With meeting rooms, free Wi-Fi, tablets to play games on and a bank representative who can clear up your credit card and banking questions while clearing off tables, this new-age banking spot is bringing some old-fashioned face time to an increasingly online industry.

For some customers, it’s the perfect pick-me-up.

“You can get a personal touch in a place like this,” says Buck Niehoff, a new Capital One customer and cardholder who frequents the new Capital One caf\xe9 in his home city of Boulder, Colorado. “We signed up for Capital One cards because of this place.”

The ability to get questions answered without having to wait on the phone or navigate a site might be worth more than even the 50 percent discount Capital One customers get on their artisanal morning brew.

If you’re not a cardholder, there’s no set discount. But in cities like Boulder, the caf\xe9 offers other perks to all visitors – for instance, a free coffee if you ride your bike to pick it up. It’s a good-image move that appeals to customers who want their banks to care about more than just the bottom line.
