This offer is no longer available on our site as of April 30, 2019.The sign-up bonus on the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa might seem like what you could find with any luxury rewards card, but it actually has more potential value than most. If you spend $4,500 in the first 90 days, you’ll receive 50,000 bonus points. If you redeem those points for travel, you get a 50 percent higher point value, making the intro offer worth up to $750.
Combined with annual travel credit and a good overall rewards rate, the sign-up bonus for the Altitude Visa can earn cardholders quite a bit toward future travels.
What is the U.S. Bank Altitude Visa worth in the first year?
The U.S. Bank Altitude Visa has a relatively high annual fee – at $400 – making the card pretty pricey to own. But frequent travelers can earn great rewards to offset the cost, including a sign-up bonus worth $750 in travel.
The card also comes with a $325 annual travel credit and offers a 50 percent point bonus for travel purchases. That means users who already spend more than $325 on travel every year get great value that makes up for a significant portion of the annual fee.

Unfortunately, the spend threshold for the sign-up bonus is on the higher side. If you don’t typically spend $4,500 on your card in 90 days, you’ll have to increase your spending for the first few months to get the bonus.
Who is eligible to earn the sign-up bonus?
The U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa is only available to U.S. Bank customers. Before you apply for the card, you’ll need to have a U.S. Bank account open and active for at least five business days. Applicants should also have excellent credit (above 740) to be considered.
The sign-up bonus is limited to new accountholders, so if you currently or have previously owned an Altitude Visa, you don’t qualify for the offer.
Best ways to use the U.S. Bank Altitude Visa sign-up bonus
The Altitude Visa has a pretty flexible redemption system, where points can be redeemed for most purchases via a statement credit. Travel purchases eke the most value out of rewards, with a 50 percent higher point value.
|Redemption option||Minimum purchase amount required to redeem||Point value (cents)||Value of 50,000 point sign-up bonus|
|Travel purchases made directly through airline, hotel or rental company|
|Other qualifying purchases on card (excluded restaurants & gas stations)||None|
To use your points to book travel, you have to make your purchases directly through the airline, hotel, car rental company or cruise line. The minimum purchase amounts on car rentals and lodging can also limit your travel opportunities. But while your booking options might be more limited, it is easy to get great value out your points.
Should you apply for a U.S. Bank Altitude Visa now?
The sign-up bonus for the Altitude Visa doesn’t change often, so there is no rush to apply before a limited time offer ends. However, the higher spend threshold for the bonus makes it a good idea to apply for the card with higher spending months ahead. If you have any holiday shopping or traveling to do, you can take advantage of spending a bit more in the coming weeks to earn more rewards. That way, you’ll have more set aside for next year’s travels.
