At least 83 percent of Americans said they would splurge in some fashion if they received $1,000 in travel miles or credit card cash rewards, a poll from Capital One found.
Only 11 percent said they would save the money or pay off debt with it.
Two-fifths of Americans said they would take a trip with their family, closely followed by 32 percent who said they would go on a shopping spree. Near the bottom of the options was saving, at 5 percent.
The Capital One Holiday Survey was conducted by Wakefield Research from Nov. 7-14, 2014. Some 1,000 American adults were polled online, with quotas used to create a sample representative of the U.S. population. They were asked, “If you were given $1,000 in travel miles or credit card cash rewards, which of the following best describes how you would use it?” The margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percent.
