Fewer Americans plan to holiday shop with credit cards in 2014, while more have set aside money or will use gift cards for their purchases, an Accenture study finds
When it comes to paying for the 2014 holidays, fewer Americans plan to pay with credit cards, while more say they will spend savings or use gift cards, an Accenture study finds.
Some 57 percent of Americans say they’ve set money aside just for holiday shopping this year, up from 52 percent in 2013. Meanwhile, 34 percent of Americans plan to pull out plastic, down 3 percent from the previous year.
The biggest jump in spending plans is gift cards — 17 percent of those polled plan to use them, up from 10 percent last year. Budgets don’t appear to be as tight this year: Everyone polled plans to buy gifts in 2014, while 3 percent refrained in 2013.
Some 500 U.S. consumers were polled online in September 2014.
