Between May 14 and May 24, 2007, Mastercard is offering the chance to participate in its Priceless Moments charity auction, with the goal of helping the children of Africa. Individuals and companies are welcome to participate in the auction, the proceeds of which will be donated to seven African children’s charities.

These registered charities face massive financial challenges each day in their work for the health, social, emotional, physical and educational needs of thousands of underprivileged and disadvantaged children in their care.

Various “Priceless Moments” can be bid for online at eBay, such as the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit down for afternoon tea with Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa.

Other charity item events include tickets to a performance by the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, and other chances to rub elbows with some famous international personalities from film, sports, music and business.

Mastercard Priceless Moments Donations at various levels provide much-needed support to South African children.  At the $30,000 level, donors will provide life-saving open-heart surgery to a child born with congenital heart defects.

At the $5,000 level, donors will contribute toward a child with a life threatening illness, like cancer or HIV/AIDS, while at the $1,000 level donors will provide a child orphaned by AIDS with a year’s supply of anti-retroviral treatment.

The Mastercard Priceless Moments charity auction is organized by the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Charity Centre for Africa and the South African Children’s Charity Trust.
