With recent changes to the Marriott Rewards loyalty program, including an updated free night award chart, you may be wondering: What's the best way to earn free Marriott nights in a short period of time? One option is the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card, which currently offers two free night awards (each valued up to 35,000 points) if you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months. Additionally, cardholders earn 6 points per dollar on Marriott and SPG purchases and 2 points per dollar on everything else.
Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card details
Along with a generous sign-up bonus and rewards rate, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card offers a variety of perks, including a free anniversary night at eligible hotels, no foreign transaction fees and trip delay reimbursement.

Why use it?
If you frequently stay at Marriott hotels and are interested in earning a large influx of rewards, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card is a great option. Along with a two free night sign-up bonus, cardholders earn one free night at eligible hotels each year.
Estimated Yearly Rewards Value ($15,900 spend)
Like many hotel rewards cards, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus comes with a substantial annual fee. However, for frequent travelers, the card’s perks and rewards easily justify the cost. For example, the free annual night alone – worth up to $200 by our estimates – more than cancels out the fee.
Recent changes to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card
Since the Premier Plus card just launched in May 2018, there currently is not a lot of bonus history to reference. So far, the card has offered 100,000- and 75,000-point bonuses after reaching the required spend threshold. Now, the offer has shifted towards free nights rather than a point bonus.
Marriott Rewards Premier Plus bonus history
|Change date||Sign-up bonus|
|Nov. 1, 2018||Two free night awards if you spend $3,000 in first 3 months|
|July 16, 2018||75,000 points if you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months|
|May 3, 2018||100,000 points if you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months|
The two free night awards offered in the current sign-up bonus are valued at around 70,000 points, so it is a bit lower than previous offers. Marriott Rewards members hoping to rack up bonus points might also be disappointed, since the bonus now comes in the form of free night certificates.
Who is eligible for the sign-up bonus?
You will not be eligible for the two free night sign-up bonus if you currently have a Marriott Rewards Premier Plus or Marriott Rewards Premier card, or if you have received a new card member bonus for either card in the past 24 months.
However, if you are an existing Marriott Rewards Premier cardholder who would like to upgrade to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card, you may be eligible for an upgrade bonus. To see if you qualify, call the phone number on the back of your card.
As of Aug. 26, 2018, there are a few more restrictions on who is eligible for the sign-up offer.

Should you apply now?
With its generous bonus of two extra free nights, now is a good time to apply for the Marriott Premier Plus card. While it is possible that the card will offer another 75,000- to 100,000-point bonus in the future, the card’s limited history doesn’t help us determine if and when the bonus will be available again.
Also, keep in mind that several program changes went into effect when the Marriot Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Ritz-Carlton loyalty programs unified on Aug. 18, 2018. For more details on the changes, click here.
