If you’re a fan of Marriott, Starwood Preferred Guest or The Ritz-Carlton hotels, Marriott Bonvoy credit cards offer a great opportunity to earn a large influx of rewards and earn free hotel stays. Currently, the cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus points when they spend $3,000 in the first three months with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit CardMarriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card and Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card. The new Marriott Bonvoy Bold™ Credit Card offers new cardholders 50,000 points when they spend $2,000 in the first three months.

The updated introductory bonuses follow the launch of the updated Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program on Feb. 13, which included several changes to all of the cards in the Marriott portfolio, including new card names and new card art.

Comparing Marriott Bonvoy cards

The Marriott Bonvoy cards share several similarities, including a good earning rate on Marriott Bonvoy hotel purchases. The Bold, Brilliant and Business cards, however, offer bonus points on additional categories, including U.S. restaurants.

Although the Brilliant card has the highest annual fee among these cards, it offers valuable hotel perks and travel credits that can more than make up for the fee. Plus, the 3-point bonus at U.S. restaurants and on flights booked directly with airlines is an ideal perk for cardholders who travel and dine out frequently.

The Boundless card, on the other hand, does not offer a bonus rate on dining or flights. However, it does offer a much lower annual fee – making it a great option for those who want to take advantage of Marriott perks but don’t want to spend $450 on annual fees. Plus, the average consumer can get close to $800 in rewards value from the card during the first year of card membership.

Cardholders who opt for the no-annual-fee Marriott Bonvoy Bold card will earn a smaller introductory bonus than other Marriott cards, but won’t have to worry about earning enough rewards to offset the card’s cost.

Recent changes to the Marriott Bonvoy cards

The Marriott Bonvoy Bold card is the newest addition to Marriott’s co-branded cards, and it is currently offering a limited-time introductory bonus of 50,000 points for cardholders who spend $2,000 in the first three months. Chase has not yet announced when this promotion is set to end.

Other Marriott Bonvoy cards have offered bonuses as high as 100,000 points. Although the current bonuses are 25,000 less than the previous offers, the spend requirement is also $2,000 less.

Best way to use 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy points

Depending on the Marriott card you choose, the up to 75,000-point introductory bonus can go a long way. In addition to hotel nights and room upgrades, cardholders can redeem points for Cash + Points, travel packages, car rentals, experiences, charity and more.

We estimate each Marriott Bonvoy point to be worth 0.8 cent – but this value can vary depending on how you redeem your rewards. For example, each point is worth 0.8 cent when redeemed for standard hotel rooms, but worth only 0.4 cent when redeemed for merchandise.

Redemption optionsAverage point valueValue of 75,000-point bonus
Standard rooms0.8 cent$600
Upgraded rooms0.7 cent$525
Cash + Points0.6 cent$450

Instant redemption0.2 cent$150
Cruises0.4 cent$300
Car rentals0.4 cent$300

Merchandise0.4 cent$300
Donation0.3 cent$225

To get the most value from your points, we recommend redeeming them for standard hotel rooms. The 75,000-point bonus can get you up to 10 nights at a category 1 property, such as Aloft, or one night at a category 7 property, such as The Ritz-Carlton New York. Plus, each time you redeem points for four consecutive nights, you’ll get the fifth consecutive night for free.

Should you apply now?

Because the Bonvoy Boundless, Bonvoy Brilliant and Bonvoy Business cards recently decreased their bonuses, it may not be the ideal time to apply for these cards. While 75,000 Marriott points are still pretty valuable, you’ll need to keep in mind that American Express has a limit of once per lifetime for earning the bonus on a particular card. Given the bonus history on the Brilliant and Business cards, you may want to hold out to see if the bonus increases in a few months.

For the Bonvoy Bold card, now is the best time to sign-up, as the 50,000-point bonus will only be around for a limited time.

If you frequently stay at Marriott hotels and are interested in earning a large influx of rewards, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card is a great option. Along with a 75,000-point sign-up bonus, cardholders earn one free night at eligible hotels each year.
