With changes to the Marriott Rewards loyalty program in 2018, including an updated free night award chart, you may be wondering: What's the best way to earn free Marriott nights in a short period of time? One option is the Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card, which currently offers 75,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 in the first three months of card membership. Additionally, cardholders earn 6 points per dollar on Marriott and SPG purchases and 2 points per dollar on everything else.
Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card details
Along with a generous sign-up bonus and rewards rate, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card offers a variety of perks, including a free anniversary night at eligible hotels, no foreign transaction fees and trip delay reimbursement.

Why use it?
If you frequently stay at Marriott hotels and are interested in earning a large influx of rewards, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card is a great option. Along with a 75,000-point sign-up bonus, cardholders earn one free night at eligible hotels each year.
Estimated Yearly Rewards Value ($15,900 spend)
Like many hotel rewards cards, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus comes with a substantial annual fee. However, for frequent travelers, the card’s perks and rewards easily justify the cost. For example, the free annual night alone – worth up to $200 by our estimates – more than cancels out the fee.
Recent changes to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card
Since the Premier Plus card’s launch in May 2018, the card has undergone a few sign-up bonus updates. So far, the card has offered 100,000- and 75,000-point bonuses after reaching the required spend threshold. More recently, the offer shifted towards free nights rather than a point bonus.
Marriott Rewards Premier Plus bonus history
|Change date||Sign-up bonus|
|Jan. 8, 2019||75,000 points if you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months|
|Nov. 1, 2018||Two free night awards if you spend $3,000 in first 3 months|
|July 16, 2018||75,000 points if you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months|
|May 3, 2018||100,000 points if you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months|
Although the current sign-up bonus is 25,000 points lower than the highest bonus, at 75,000 points, it is still a generous offer. Additionally, cardholders are required to spend $2,000 less to receive the bonus than what was required for the 100,000-point bonus.
Upcoming 100,000-point limited-time offer
Chase has announced plans to launch an upgraded Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card on Feb. 28, 2019. In addition to updated card art and a new card name, the enhanced Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card will feature a limited-time sign-up bonus offer: Cardholders will earn 100,000 points when they spend $5,000 in the first three months of card membership. Chase has not yet specified when the 100,000-point offer is scheduled to end.
This update will come shortly after the Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty programs are replaced with the Marriott Bonvoy™ program on Feb. 13.
Who is eligible for the 75,000-point sign-up bonus?
You will not be eligible for the 75,000-point bonus if you currently have a Marriott Rewards Premier Plus or Marriott Rewards Premier card, or if you have received a new card member bonus for either card in the past 24 months.
However, if you are an existing Marriott Rewards Premier cardholder who would like to upgrade to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card, you may be eligible for an upgrade bonus. To see if you qualify, call the phone number on the back of your card.
As of Aug. 26, 2018, there are a few more restrictions on who is eligible for the sign-up offer.

Should you apply now?
With its generous, 75,000-point bonus, now is a good time to apply for the Marriott Premier Plus card. However, because the card will launch a 100,000-point sign-up bonus on Feb. 28, a little patience may pay off in the long run. For example, with the 75,000-point bonus, the Marriott Premier Plus card’s yearly rewards value is worth approximately $500. However, with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card, the yearly rewards value is estimated at $606.
If you are a new card member interested in the Bonvoy Boundless card, you can begin applying on Feb. 28. If you are an existing Marriott Rewards Premier Plus cardholder, you can expect to receive the upgraded card sometime later in 2019.
