Ride-sharing has become a popular means of transportation for many kinds of customers. On one hand, can be very convenient, but it can also get expensive if you regularly use these apps to get around.

Luckily, there’s a way to save on rides and get other perks with a subscription. If you often ride with Lyft, you may want to consider signing up for Lyft Pink, a monthly membership that offers a discount on rides as well as other benefits.

Read on to see how the subscription works and whether it’s worth it for you.

What Lyft Pink offers

With Lyft Pink, you’ll get 15% off rides in the U.S. The discount is applied automatically, except for business rides – which you can still apply a discount to after the ride has ended.

Besides the discount, you’ll get access to a number of other perks, including:

  • Free Grubhub+ membership (worth $9.99 per month) – You can link your Lyft membership to your Grubhub account and receive access to free delivery.
  • Three free cancellations a month for the rides you cancel and rebook within 15 minutes. Note that you’ll still be charged a cancellation fee, but Lyft will refund it after you finish the ride and rate the driver.
  • Three free scooter, bike or ebike rides a month in eligible areas.
  • Priority airport pickup allows you to get matched with a closer driver during busy times at airports where Fast Match isn’t available.
  • No lost and found fees – Lyft will waive the fee when you report a lost item.
  • Surprise member offers that may include limited-time promotions, seasonal discounts and other exclusive savings opportunities.

Lyft Pink costs $19.99 per month (plus tax if required), and you can pause or cancel the subscription at any time.

How to join Lyft Pink

If you’d like to sign up for the membership, you can easily do so from the Lyft app. In the app menu, choose “Lyft Pink” and tap “Join now” on the following screen.

Your subscription will renew automatically each month, and Lyft will use your default payment method to charge you.

If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, you can get a year of Lyft Pink membership for free. To activate the benefit, open your Lyft app, make sure your Chase Sapphire Reserve is your preferred payment method and click on the prompt “Tap to activate a free year of Lyft Pink”.

You’ll see a page where you can learn about the membership perks, terms and conditions. Tap the button “Activate for free” to start your free year of Lyft Pink.

Tip: Even if you choose not to take advantage of the free membership, make sure to make the Chase Sapphire Reserve your default payment with Lyft to earn 10 points per dollar on Lyft purchases through March 2022.

Is Lyft Pink worth it?

While Lyft Pink has some attractive benefits for frequent riders, it takes quite a bit of riding to justify the subscription’s cost. To break even, you need to spend at least $134 per month on Lyft rides, excluding tips and taxes.

If ride-sharing is your preferred means of getting around, this spend might be easy to reach, and the perks may offer some additional value and convenience. For example, if you frequently order in, a free GrubHub+ membership will allow you to save on delivery fees when you order from eligible restaurants.

However, if you only use Lyft occasionally, the $19.99 monthly cost might not be worth the benefits. You may even end up losing money on the subscription. We recommend checking how much you usually spend on Lyft each month before signing up to make sure the membership will make sense for you.

If you’re a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder, a free year of Lyft Pink can be an excellent deal. Still, it’s best to wait to activate it when you know you’re going to be using ride-sharing services in the near future to get the most out of this card perk.

Bottom line

Lyft Pink may be a good option if you regularly use ride-sharing services to get around. Perks like a free GrubHub+ membership, free cancellations and priority airport pickup also add value to the subscription. However, if you only use Lyft occasionally, the membership fee can eat into your savings from the 15% discount – or cancel out its value altogether.
