The average American isn’t exactly a credit scoring expert, but there are some basic elements of credit scoring that most Americans do know, according to a survey by the Consumer Federation of America.

For example, about seven in 10 consumers know that most consumers have more than one credit score and that three main credit bureaus collect information that the credit scores are based on.
