Between August (when Halloween paraphernalia first started haunting the stores) to the stroke of midnight on Oct. 31, Americans will have spent $6.9 billion on Halloween fun, according to the National Retail Federation.

What they buy will ring up to an average of about $107 per Halloween shopper. CreditCards.com broke down that frightful number into the most monstrous spending categories, based on data from various trade groups that keep tabs on the retail, costume, candy, haunted house and greeting card industries. We also scared up some fun facts about the holiday traditions and treats that will cost Americans an arm and a leg — and perhaps various other body parts.
