Citibank has become the first major credit card issuer to offer its members real-time tracking of replacement credit cards. Citi cardholders can now use a card-tracking feature to monitor the progress of a replacement card through both the Citi Mobile App for iPhone or Android, and the Citibank website.
By providing the ability to track a new card’s delivery, Citi hopes to reduce feelings of uneasiness that cardholders sometimes experience when waiting for cards to arrive. Alice Milligan, chief customer and digital experience officer for Citi Global Cards and Consumer Services, explained in a press release, “Having real-time insight into the status of their card delivery will provide our customers with more peace of mind and enable them to plan ahead.”
The new technology offers more transparency into the waiting period that occurs in instances of card loss, theft and damage, product conversions and situations where cards must be reissued -- such as card expiration and chip upgrade. Cardholders can see when a replacement card has been processed, and -- if the card is shipped via FedEx -- its expected delivery date and where the card is in the delivery process. Once the new card arrives, the cardholder can then activate the card using the tracker.
“As we redesign the banking experience to be increasingly in the palms of our card members’ hands, Citi is quickly creating simple, next-gen solutions for our customers’ banking needs,” Milligan states.
Enhancing the Citi Mobile experience
The introduction of the new tracking feature follows the launch of several recent improvements to the Citi Mobile App. Citibank became the first major U.S. credit card issuer to allow card members to dispute certain charges using a mobile app with the launch of Citi Pay earlier this month. Additional enhancements include Credit Limit Increase, which enables card members to request higher limits via the app, and Paperless Statement Enrollment, which allows card members to receive paperless statements directly through the app.
