Elite qualifying miles
Elite qualifying miles are frequent flier miles that count toward achieving elite status with a given airline. Typically, miles earned by making purchases on a credit card do not help you attain elite status. Only actual miles flown do that. However, some upscale credit cards allow you to earn elite miles just by making purchases. Most severely restrict the amount of elite miles you can earn that way annually, though, limiting you to not more than 5,000 miles.
