Compare credit cards' trip cancellation, trip interruption policies

Are you covered if you have to cut your vacation short or cancel it all together? Before taking out travel insurance, see whether your credit card has policies to reimburse some of the cost of your failed travel plans. Below is a list of some credit cards and their coverage policies for trip cancellation and interruption.

$395 $10,000 Trip cancellation insurance can provide reimbursement for the cost of a scheduled passenger fare on a common carrier for a covered trip in the event that the trip must be canceled or interrupted due to covered reasons. When traveling on a covered trip, the cardholder is provided with up to $500 per ticket purchased with The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card for reasonable expenses -- including lodging and meals -- provided your trip is subject to a delay of more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay.
United MileagePlus Club Card Chase

$395 $10,000 A partial refund may be issued if a trip must be canceled or cut short due to death, illness or injury of the cardholder or an immediate family member which a physician declares will prevent the cardholder from traveling on a trip purchased with the card. This is for the nonrefundable portion of a ticket only.

$95; waived for first year $10,000 Trip cancellation insurance reimburses the cardholder or immediate family members for each covered trip. Available if a covered loss prevents the cardholder or immediate family members from traveling on or before the departure date and results in cancellation of the travel arrangements.

It must be caused by or result from: 1) death, accidental injury, disease, or physical illness of the insured person or an immediate family member of the insured person; or 2) default of the scheduled airline resulting from financial insolvency. The death, accidental injury, disease or physical illness must be verified by a physician and must prevent the insured person from traveling on a covered trip.
